José Luis Meyer (1981) has a masters degree in industrial design from TU-München in Germany and a background in mechanical engineering. He has lived in Germany, Austria and Mexico, collaborated with architects, worked with designers, produced jewelry and furniture collections, yet his true passion lies in abstract sculpture.
In 2007 he established a workshop/studio in Mexico City, focused on material and form experimentation. His creations are geometric, playful and clear lined; mostly handmade though undergoing hi-tech processes at the same time. His first sculpture series “esCOOLtura” was presented at The Nasher Sculpture Center Store in 2009 and invited the public to use their imagination to create individual compositions. Now, JL Meyer creates unique sculptures for contemporary art galleries.
Meyer has taken part in exhibitions at The Nasher Sculpture Center (Dallas, USA), Arroniz Berrueta Arte Contemporáneo (Monterrey) and Galería Mexicana de Diseño (Mexico City). He has also sold his work at Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (Mexico City), Pinakothek der Moderne (Munich, Germany), Stuarr (Rome, Italy), Circuit 12 Contemporary (Dallas, USA), among others.
JL Meyer is a member at Visual Arts Alliance in Houston, where his work has been selected and shown at an Open Exhibition in 2023. He is now represented by Avant-Art Gallery (Houston) and Estudio Actual (Mexico City).
